Christoph Köppel

Attorney-at-Law, lic.iur., LL.M.

Christoph advises and represents companies with a special focus on the areas of trade law (especially in an international context), company law and general contract law. Another special focus of Christoph’s activities is regarding Chinese law. In China related mandates, Christoph works closely together with the Chinese law firm Global Law Office, in which he holds a position as a Senior Legal Counsel.

Christoph studied law at the University of Fribourg and finalized his studies there in the year 1999 with a licentiate in legal studies. He was admitted to the bar in Switzerland in 2003, after passing the bar exam of the Canton of Zürich. In the years 2006 and 2007, Christoph participated in a Master of Law program of the Tsinghua University in Beijing and finalized these studies with a LL.M. in Chinese economic law. During the years 2007 to 2010, Christoph was working first as an associate and thereafter as a resident partner and Chief Representative in a Representative Office of a European law firm in Beijing. In the year 2011, Christoph joined the Chinese law firm Global Law Office, first in Beijing and from 2017 on in Shanghai.


Josephine Rüegsegger-Hu

Attorney-at-Law, MLaw, LL.M. (PRC)

Josephine acquired a solid legal training in Swiss law at the University of Fribourg as well as in international economic law at the East China East China University of Political Science and Law in Shanghai, bevor being admitted to the Swiss bar in 2021. As a Berrow Foundation Scholar, she received the opportunity to deepen her interest in and knowledge of China by participating the Modern Chinese Studies program at the University of Oxford, where she then obtained a Master of Philosophy (an MPhil, in Chinese studies). Josephine has gained a diverse professional experience in the following years as a bilingual attorney-at-law (German/French), as a court clerk at a court of first instance in the Canton of Berne, as a research assistant at the University of Fribourg, as well as as a Junior Officer at the Trade Office of Swiss Industries in Taipei. Josephine specializes in corporate law and (international) contract law, as well as in Swiss criminal and migration law. Josephine’s working languages are German, French and Englisch, and she is in the process of improving her basic Mandarin skills.


Xinru Ma

Xinru Ma is a Chinese lawyer and a Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe. She received her education in China at the Ocean University of China, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in law. In Germany she studied at the University of Munich where she obtained two master’s degrees in international Economic Law and German Law. Xinru specializes in Chinese and European data-related laws, foreign direct investment, general corporate law, and mergers and acquisitions, and has been actively involved in advising foreign invested companies regarding compliance with the Chinese network security, data, and personal information protection laws and the corresponding regulations.


Ruyi Jie

Ruyi Jie holds the legal practice qualification in Mainland China. She holds a bachelor’s degree in law from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and a master’s degree in law from University College London. Prior to joining us, Ruyi worked at a leading Chinese law firm, focusing on mergers and acquisitions. Ruyi specializes in cross-border investment, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate law.


Kaiwen Liang

Kaiwen Liang passed the National Unified Legal Professional Qualification Examination in Mainland China. She obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from Jilin University Law School, ranking top of her grade. Ms. Liang has interned at leading Chinese law firms and an Intermediate People's Court, gaining valuable experience in domestic and foreign-related dispute resolution, contract translation, and AI governance. Parallel to her work in our team, she is currently pursuing a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in Intellectual Property Law at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Koguan Law School.


Shanmei Tan

Shanmei holds a Bachelor of Arts from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing and is now supporting the our law firm as an assistant and as the responsible person for communications and marketing.
